Navel Piercing Aftercare Instructions
If you've had your navel pierced by a responsible party, you were given a list of proper navel piercing aftercare instructions. If that was not the case, then read on. Here are a few things you must include as part of your navel piercing aftercare program.
Remember that the piercing should not be touched massaged or pulled. The only time you should touch the area is when you are cleaning it. As part of your navel piercing aftercare regimen, always wash your hands immediately before you begin to clean the area.
Replacing the bandage will most likely be the first task you perform as part of the navel piercing aftercare. Roughly four to five hours after the piercing is done, remove the bandage and examine the area. Do not be alarmed if you see blood on the bandage; that is perfectly normal at this stage. If possible, take a shower and cup you hand under the piercing, allowing water to soak the area for a few minutes. If you prefer a tub bath, lean back and allow the bath water to cleanse the area. One word on tub baths - leave out your artificially scented bubble bath this time and stick to plain old soap.
It is not generally recommended that a bandage be used after the initial part of the navel piercing aftercare. The wound will heal much more quickly if it can be exposed to light and air.
Proper navel piercing aftercare dictates that you clean the area daily. Repeat the process you performed on the first day, but add a new component to your navel piercing aftercare once twenty four hours have passed. After toweling off, put a small amount of a cleaning solution in your hand and gently rub into the navel area. Most solutions recommend no more than one or two drops be used at a time. Move the ring or jewel up and down very gently, to allow the solution to get into the wound. The solution will lather. Leave it on for a couple of minutes, then rinse and gently dry the area.
For long term navel piercing aftercare, many people recommend lavender oil, as it can help keep the skin supple and will prevent the wound from closing. Cleanliness will be essential as part of your ongoing navel piercing aftercare. Wash, clean, and dry the area thoroughly each day. After engaging in swimming or other water sports, clean the area so it is free of chlorine. If you perspire a lot, also clean thoroughly more than once a day.
Sunshine is an essential part of your navel piercing aftercare. Sunlight helps the body produce Vitamin D, which is ideal for not only the healing process, but also for limiting the chances for an infection down the road. With a little effort, you can create a healthy regime of navel piercing aftercare, and enjoy your piercing without any problems.
